What Is The Purpose Of A Floor Mat?

A floor mat is a floor covering made of course, woven or fibrous materials. It is a small fabric material that is placed on a floor for the purpose of preventing dirt and soils from coming into a premise.

Benefits of having a floor mat

Mats reduce risk of falling

A floor mat also prevents or reduces the risk of accidents arising from wet or slick floors by making such surfaces less slippery.

Trap dust and mad from human traffic

Some facilities are high traffic areas and therefore need very course, rough mats, especially during the rainy seasons to help reduce the mud that may be stuck under the shoes of those visiting the facility. An office building on the other hand will need a beautiful, carpeted floor mat to help trap all the dirt or soil brought into the building.

Entrance mats

These are floor mats placed at the entrance of a building to help keep out dirt and water from peoples’ shoes as they walk in. It is important to focus on the functionality of an entrance mat rather than design and beauty, thou it is also possible to get one that provides both.

A good quality entrance mat not only reduces 80 percent of all dirt that enters a building, but it also reduces the number of times the carpets in that building need cleaning, thus saving time and money.

Protection and cleanness

Mats also serve the purpose of protecting floors, help in soundproofing and keeping the floors of buildings clean, therefore invest in good quality floor mats which will have long lasting benefits for your building, your employees, and the public in general.

Adopting a 3 mat-zoning system during bad weather:

  • Zone 1

Zone 1 mats help scrape off dirt and grime from shoes. These entrance mats should be made from heavy weather-resistant material.

  • Zone 2

In this zone, there is a further scraping of the shoes using a mat made of tough absorbent fibres. It allows you to wipe your shoes. The ideal location of this mat is at the foyer or just inside the entrance to your facility.

  • Zone 3

This zone finalizes the wiping, drying, and cleaning process on the shoes. The zone 3 mat has thicker more absorbent fibers that ensure all dirt is cleaned off the shoes.

Benefits of using floor liner mats

Protection

Floor liner mats are moulded to the contours of a specific vehicle floor. They are preferable to floor mats because they typically fit the floor area of a vehicle, helping protect it against spills, stains and burns as they soak up spills and excess moisture. They are intended for wall-to-wall carpeting, thus lining up every square inch of the vehicle floor.

Functionality

Floor liner mats are usually made of polymers, also referred to as synthetic rubber which helps to protect the carpet underneath by using high bolsters to collect and trap liquid on the surface of the liner.

They lock themselves in place, becoming a permanent feature in your vehicle. This is made possible by the small spikes on the bottom of the liner which cling to the floor of your vehicle, keeping it from shifting or sliding under your feet.

Cleaning

They are easy to pull out and clean whenever necessary. They also help to save on cleaning materials that you would need to use on the carpet in their absence.
