If you have a very sad-looking bedroom that you want to change, you have already started as the first step is accepting that something needs a little bit of fixing.
Our list of suggestions will make your home look clean and feel much more cozy and comfy. The best part is that you don’t have to spend a lot and hopefully achieve the desired feel and look with things you already have at home.
Install a Wall Mural
The first thing you might want to do is add a wall mural, preferably at the wall behind your bed. The installation process is very easy even if you have never done this before.
For bedrooms, wallpapers and murals are kind of like a must-have, especially if you want to make your bedroom look attractive. A wall mural is also a great idea if you don’t want to hang around a bunch of art and make the room feel cluttered.
If you want, you can add an extra layer of coziness by painting the adjacent walls of the mural wall. For a modern minimalist approach, you can install wall sconces on both sides of the bed frame.
Wall sconces are definitely a great way to frame the bed. Not only are wall sconces practical, but you also have light for reading when your partner wants to sleep and needs their side of the bed to be dark.
The wall sconces will also make the bed appear as the focal point of your bedroom, which only adds to the intended warmth and coziness of the room.
Change the Bedding
Next, you might want to swap your current bedding with some other bedsheets, preferably of better quality. While this is not a must-do, you will be amazed to see the massive difference that a bedsheet swap can cause.
However, this won’t be effective if you don’t have a good quality bed frame. Trust us when we tell you that, at the end of the day, there will be nothing better than cozily getting into a very comfy bed.
Besides the comfort and quality of the bedsheets, you might want to upgrade to a brighter and lighter color. That said, light-colored solid hues are more relaxing and peaceful, making the overall bedroom space feel calm.
After you have changed the bedsheets, you can proceed to add some extra pillows to the regular ones. The pillows can be of different sizes, tones, and textures. If you are on a budget, you may find throw pillows a bit on the expensive side.
But, if you own a handful of pillow inserts, all you need to do is to change the pillow covers, which are way more affordable.
If you have pillow covers at home, you may want to try them on and see which ones work out best.
To add texture, you might want to start with a faux furry set of pillows in the color of your choice. To add a little more texture to the bed and make it cozier, add a final blanket, such as a knit blanket.
Depending on the type of blanket, you can try out different styles to lay it on the bed. We recommend spreading it straight across the bottom if you have a thin throw blanket.
You could also try to lay the blanket over the corner of the bed and see which style looks the coziest.
When it comes to small upgrades, windows are usually the most-overlooked spots; however, these can make a massive difference to the overall vibe of the bedroom.
The fabric helps to add a certain level of texture and coziness to the interior space. You don’t necessarily have to go big and thick with the curtains or blinds.
Even adding light sheer curtains will induce warmth and coziness to the room while ensuring that you don’t lose any natural light during the day. The light sheer curtains will make the room appear bright and happy.
As we mentioned before, additional layers of textures add coziness to your bedroom, and there are different ways to do so. For instance, you can roll out a rug and even experiment with the layering of different rugs.
A more budget-friendly approach to adding texture to your space is by placing one or two baskets in the bedroom corner.
The baskets can also serve as handy storage for the blankets and pillows. Besides being practical for storage, a loosely woven basket with different textiles induces an extra layer to the cozy appeal of the room. There is no shortage of decor ideas on the internet.
See Google images or Pinterest and you will get hundreds of images of bedrooms. You can use them as inspiration and get the items that you think would help upgrade your private room. Make sure you don’t keep adding unnecessary things that feel out of place.
Temper with the Lighting
Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the overall vibe and mood of your bedroom, which is why we encourage you to add a little bit of mood lighting in the form of candles.
Try something new with fairy lights if you aren’t a huge fan of candles. Trust us; fairy lights aren’t delimited to the use of teenage girls, but these are also a great choice for all bedrooms that need a touch of twinkly soft coziness.
You have loads of options on how to position and place those lights. For instance, you might want to hang them along with the bed frame.
Or, you could place them over the basket at the corner of your room or simply place them over the dresser in your bedroom. In the end, it all comes down to your personal preferences.
